Pre-Heating of Transport Crucibles
Process Description
If foundries are supplied with liquid aluminum in crucibles or liquid aluminum is not transported via channels but in ladles from one operation to another, these crucibles or ladles have to be preheated. Preheating is carried out with burner systems which, in the past, were mostly operated with air as an oxidising agent.

Gas Application
By using oxygen (oxy-fuel) instead of air as an oxidising agent, considerably higher temperatures can be achieved in a shorter time. Furthermore, fuel consumption is reduced and process efficiency increases.
Advantages of Oxyfuel burner systems at a glance:
- Higher combustion efficiency
- Higher melting rate
- Faster heating-up times
- Lower fuel consumption
- Higher processing temperatures possible
- Faster reaction speeds
- Lower exhaust gas levels
- Less dust
- Lower emissions
- Lower production costs
Possible savings when using oxyfuel burners for pre-heating crucibles and ladles:
Ladle dimensions [t] |
0,5 - 250 |
Energy savings [%] |

Messer SOlution
In addition to the gases required for your process, Messer offers a variety of equipment for its optimisation under the brand names Oxipyr and Oxijet.
In order to select the optimum system, experts from Messer first carry out a comprehensive process analysis. Following calculations and basic engineering, suggestions are made for optimisation and further procedures.
The characteristics of the burner types are multi-faceted and range from low to high momentum burners, oxy-fuel to oxygen/air mixing burners and burners for different fuels or fuel combinations. The systems are controlled manually, semi- or fully automatically following compositions or temperature.
